TRAIN VOLUNTEERS with an ongoing process

- Share scripture that supports a special needs ministry. 

- Present your ministry’s mission and goals.    

- Review church-wide policies and ministry-specific procedures.

- Have the volunteer observe seasoned volunteers.

- Share the student’s profile sheet.

- Teach as behavior occurs. 

- Remind that students change and what worked one week may not work the next.

- Model ways to communicate well.

- Pair with different students or have them try   serving other areas.

- E-mail quick general tips and ideas.  

- Post reminders in the classrooms.

- Create online quizzes with  SurveyMonkey, Kahoot, or Quizlet.

- Share resources such as articles,   blogs, podcasts, and videos. 

- Share stories, both successes and failures. 

- Reinforce ministry goals and beliefs.

- Use fun games, role-playing and small group discussions to engage and teach.
