Clear communication leads to strong relationships and happy students. Those with special needs express themselves in unique ways, so we need to listen differently and respond effectively. Learn a bit about the many languages, interpret behavior and actions, and use strategies that lead to positive outcomes.

-Assume everyone would like to communicate and is able to do so.

-Know that those who don't speak can still hear and understand what is being said.

-Be patient since students may not be able to easily process what is heard.
