Anchor your beliefs in why a special needs ministry is needed in your church. Some reasons are personal, others are practical, and the most important are rooted in scripture. Sharing "the why" encourages leaders to support our efforts, motivates volunteers, and pulls us through tough times. Encourage others to coach leaders, co-workers, and congregants toward a church where everyone with disabilities truly belongs. It will be a continual process of making some waves and connecting worlds, so start your journey today.

-People with disabilities are made in the image of God.
-Those with intellectual and developmental disorders can have a relationship with Jesus.
-God has given special-needs families gifts and talents that are needed in our churches.
-Special needs behaviors should not be feared, nor be a reason to exclude a family.

-Share stories of students’ strengths, gifts, resilience, and skills with everyone.
-Describe how you've helped, or could help, a family attend church by offering just a little help.
-Offer workshops on understanding differences, behavior management, and disability etiquette.
-Learn and share the surprising facts and statistics of needs in your community.-

-Introduce your families to ministry leaders to find opportunities for inclusion.
-Invite typical families into special needs environments.
-Find volunteer opportunities for those with disabilities throughout your church.
-Ask volunteers to champion the ministry in their fellowship groups.
“In fact some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary” (I Corinthians 12:22 NLT).
