Family matters

Talk to your parents and learn the many decisions they make for their child, including housing, caregivers, employment, continued education, social opportunities, transportation, and finances.  You only need to know a bit about each to make a big difference. 

-Identify the services and benevolence programs in your church that provide support. 

- Remind everyone to join the waiver interest lists as soon as possible.  

-Browse through Texas Health and Human Services and locate your Local IDD authority (LIDDA).  

-Consider support opportunities and counseling for marriages and parenting. 

--Discover ways to support siblings of all ages. 

-Engage grandparents and others to understand differences and love through challenges.  

-Celebrate with families as they reach milestones. 

-Care for families when they mourn not being able to participate in common celebrations like graduations and weddings.
