Earlier in life, Dan was unaware of the need for a disability ministry in a church, but that changed after he became a quadriplegic. Today, he advocates for churches to serve those with special needs and to include them in all they do. He'll share his story and give insight as to why pastors, elders, and others may hesitate to give full support. We'll walk away better equipped to bring everyone on board and encouraged to continue our efforts, big and small, as we start and strengthen disability ministry.

Our special needs students are beautifully and wonderfully made. Each has their own way of processing the world around them, which often results in behaviors that confuse us. Jordan Smelley will help us make sense of two common behavors: sensory seeking and avoidance. He will share his personal experiences and teach us how to interpret what behavior is telling us. He'll describe how to respond with grace so that everyone feels comfortable, understood, and ready to learn about Jesus.

Kristin Langord, With Ministries, shares ten things we can easily do to help everyone feel welcome, be included, and find purpose at our churches. These ideas work for churches with or without a formal special needs ministry. Dedicated spaces, staff, and a big budget are not required. Infuse these ideas in all areas to help everyone truly belong.
